Dr  Daniel  Foley

Daniel graduated from the University of Manchester with a first class degree in Chemistry (MChem). His final year project was supervised by Prof. Jonathan Clayden, and concerned the synthesis of chiral tertiary thiols through the carbolithiation of vinyl thiocarbamates. He also carried out an industrial placement year at Syngenta R&D.

Daniel completed his doctoral studies under the supervision of Prof. Steve Marsden and Prof. Adam Nelson. This involved the development of synthetic approaches to prepare small molecular scaffolds, which may prove to be suitable starting points for drug discovery programmes.

Daniel was awarded an EPSRC Doctoral Prize Fellowship to build upon his PhD studies. He will prepare a library of >50 three-dimensional fragments, based upon ~20 scaffolds that are accessible using a novel synthetic approach. High-throughput fragment screening will be used to realise the biological relevance of this work.

 

Daniel moved to the Max Planck Institute for Molecular Physiology in Dortmund where he secured a Marie Curie Fellowship; and then to a lectureship at the Unviersity of Canterbury in New Zealand.
