Carlos graduated from the University of Barcelona in 2006 and completed his PhD at the same university in 2011 under the supervision of Dr Carmen Escolano. His research was supported by the Ministerio de Educación y Ciencia of Spain and centred on stereoselective cascade reactions. Before obtaining his PhD degree, he joined the group of Prof Karl Anker Jørgensen at Ǻrhus University for developing new asymmetric multicatalytic reactions.

Carlos moved to Leeds in June 2011 to start his postdoctoral studies supported by an Agustí Pedro i Pons fellowship. His project is concerned with the exploitation of Ir- and Au-catalysis in the synthesis of diverse lead-like scaffolds.
