Alun graduated from the University of Leeds in 2009 with a BSc degree from the School of Chemistry. He then went on to complete an MSc in Process Research and Development: his project focused on studying hydrogen borrowing reactions catalysed by Group VIII metal complexes under the supervision of Dr Patrick McGowan.

Alun’s PhD project was concerned with using chemically modified aldolase enzymes to catalyse reactions other than the aldol reaction. This work was undertaken in collaboration with Prof. Berry of the Astbury Centre for Structural Molecular Biology and was funded by EPSRC.  Alun moved to a position with Lhasa Ltd.
