Charles-Hugues Lardeau graduated from the Chemistry Department in ENSIACET (National Institute of Chemistry, Industrial and Chemical Engineering and Technology) in Toulouse in 2007. During this period, he also undertook a summer placement at South Dakota State University and an ERASMUS year at the Manchester Metropolitan University.

In 2008, Charles completed the School of Chemistry's Chemical Biology MSc course with Distinction, before beginning a Wellcome Trust-funded Studentship on the Molecular Basis of Biological Mechanisms within the Astbury Centre. His foundation year included research projects in Biochemistry (with Dr. Julian Hiscox and Dr. Eric Hewitt) and NMR spectroscopy (with Prof. Steve Homans). His PhD project involved the development of small inhibitors of the human respiratory syncytial virus (hRSV) in collaboration with Drs. Julian Hiscox and John Barr.
