Dr  Joachim  Horn


Joachim graduated from the University of Freiburg, Germany, in 2003.  Subsequently he joined the group of Prof. W. Bannwarth for his PhD, where he was working on the synthesis and application of perfluoro-modified ligands in heterogeneous systems, as well as microwave assisted aminations in aqueous systems. The project allowed him to gather experience in automated parallel synthesis and chemistry in scCO2 in the course of some spin-off-projects.

Joachim was supported by a grant from EPSRC (£600k) held by Steve Marsden and Adam Nelson.  His project involved the development of new methods for the synthesis of arrays of potentially bioactive molecules, and involves major collaboration with GSK.  This grant will enable the synthesis of libraries of bioactive molecules, an area which is key to the development of Chemical Genetics at the University of Leeds.  Jo moved onto an industrial chemistry position in Basle, Switzerland.
